At Ryde Chiropractic, we understand that working from home has become more common, alongside recreational time spent on laptops, desktops, and mobile phones. In order to make sure that your work or study environment at both home and work is a comfortable and healthy one, we recommend taking part in ergonomic workstation assessments.
As the business world transitions to work-from-home and we are all spending several hours a day working at a desk and from a screen, you might find that your working posture is not ideal. In the long run, this may cause aches and pains, headaches and stiffness.
Ryde Chiropractic provides workstation assessments to help you prevent such musculoskeletal symptoms from occurring, and to improve your overall experience working from home. We make sure you can comfortably work from home and at work with the correct posture.
What is ergonomics?
“Defined as the science of fitting a workplace to the user’s needs, ergonomics aims to increase efficiency and productivity and reduce discomfort.” – Humanscale
As part of the first step to our workstation assessments, we ask you to send a photo of yourself at your workstation – ideally taken by another person so that we can see the full picture of you working.
We can then evaluate this photo and provide you with valuable and personalised feedback about how you can improve their workstation based on our observations. We assess certain environmental factors to help you gain a deeper understanding of the ergonomic level of your work station. These factors include:
We also discuss other beneficial possibilities such as:
We will recommend helpful workstation changes to improve your experience working both at home and work, while also taking care of your general health and wellbeing.
Our workstation assessments may help you by correcting your study or workstation for the benefit of your long term health. At Ryde Chiropractic, we do not want our patients to receive chiropractic care from our clinic, only to have these benefits limited by postural challenges at home or work. We take a holistic approach to your care and endeavour to provide you with the best recommendations for your case.
The combination of chiropractic care, rehab exercises, workstation advice and postural habit changes provides you with a well rounded approach to addressing your health and posture challenges.

What is an ergonomic workstation assessment?
An ergonomic workstation assessment involves an assessment of anything to do with the setup and usage of your workstation that will get in the way of your comfort and productivity. We want to make sure that your work and study setup and habits will help, rather than hinder, the benefits you receive from your chiropractic care, so you can feel your best.
What happens in an ergonomic assessment?
Based on years of experience doing this and the current data, we assess the setup of your workstation and how you are using your equipment. We have a look at how you sit, the position and height of your screen and keyboard as well as many other factors.
We will make recommendations to help you get the most out of your setup so you can concentrate on your work without the problems that come with poor ergonomics.
What is the correct posture when sitting at your workstation?
The correct posture when sitting at your desk or workstation ideally has the top of your screen about an arm length in front of you with the top of the screen at eye level. Your lower back would be supported and your body upright, rather than leaning or slouching forwards or backwards.
Even better than sitting is standing.
Your keyboard and mouse would be at a level where you are not reaching for it and so your elbows are by your side with your forearms level with the floor.
These are the basics.
How does office work affect posture?
At Ryde Chiropractic we understand that work days can be long and stressful. So we also understand that we want to have everything at your workstation setup so that you don’t have to constantly think about posture or the negative effects of bad posture. That’s why we will help you have the right set up so you can get on with your work.
